When we ordered our TT last year, I measured at the wheels from the ground to the chassis of a similar model TT as the coupler is even with the bottom of the chassis. I set the hitch up so the ball would be 1" higher than the top of the coupler with the spring bars angled appropriately according to Reese's instructions. Our trailer arrived a few weeks later. We went and picked it up. It towed perfectly. Not sure what mistakes would require having to adjust it several times.
A 5th wheel hitch needs to be adjust properly as well to insure proper clearance with bed rails. This can mean that the trailer doesn't sit level if the TV has high bed rails.
On our last trip to Alabama to see my mom, we loaded an outdoor patio set of steel table and chairs into the truck to take to her. No 5th wheel RV offers that kind of storage except for a toy hauler. For our usual camping equipment, I load the grill and tank into the truck with some firewood. With the 5th wheel, the grill had to go in the kitchen/living area. For a few years long ago, we loaded the Harley into the back of the truck when we had our first TT.
As far as the hitch goes, the bars and hitch store in the front storage compartment when we're not towing. When we're at Ginnie Springs, the 5th wheel hitch had to come out to have the bed of the truck for hauling people and tubes. Far more of a chore than the simple hitch and bars.
I've always preferred a HD pickup so 5th or TT will be a HD pickup. I agree, everyone's situation is different. For us, I have no regrets going back to a TT. My 5th wheel hitch is out back collecting sunshine in case I decide to go back to a 5th wheel.
