Treating your roof.

I have a 25ft. 2010 Dutchmen Lite. Because of its light weight construction, walking on the roof is not recommended. Hence, once a year I check all the caulking and just hose it down to remove the dust and debris with a ladder.

I know others say they re-seal every year.

My question is, how many of you treat your roof and how many leave well enough alone?
  • I wash ours with this cleaner( can't remember the brand right now), that has a conditioner/UV protectant added. I check and add Dicor to any cracks(minimal, just cracks in corner sealant). Most of what I have found is not really cracks yet, just places that I feel all warm inside about sealing up. Our TT is a 2014.
  • I completely remove our roof at the end of the season, roll it up and store it inside a hermetically sealed room..

Seriously, inspect, wash with Dawn dish soap (maybe), caulk as needed...no treatment.
  • I just cleaned mine with Murphy Oil Soap & don't use any protectants.
  • I just clean mine once a year, nothing more. Owner's manual says that's all that's needed.
  • I did some research on this when we got our first TT last fall. There seems to be two camps. Those who wash it a couple times a year and seal every couple of years and those who just wash it. I decided to wash and reseal it. It was 6 years old at the time. A lot of the original sealant had "chalked" and there were numerous spots that I initially though were mold. Turns out that was the EPDM showing through. I figure I would only have to recoat it once for the time we will own it. Other than that I'll check it every 3-4 months and Dicor anything that needs it. I've read too many horror stories about leaks and roof problems so that's my take on it.

I treated mine to a steak dinner. So far so good.

A 2010 new to me in April....I was up there checking, cleaning and caulking. Probably do it again next April.
