Triangle Tires??

So I'm going to need new tires...I had 205/75R15 MileStar tires on DOT 4Y3B (not sure what that means)...but I've been looking for new tires as I really don't want to swap out Rims to get LT tires. We don't do a ton of long distance camping trips (3 hrs is about farthest we travel)...most are weekend getaways about 1-2 hrs away. With that being said...I got a quote from a local tire dealer for some Triangle Tires (load D). I've looked on line and have found the ususal "don't buy Chinese Made tires"...but I also came across a few forums where people were rather happy with the Triangle (they did say that they rotated and balanced every year). Looking at $335 for 4 of the Triangle vs. $520 for 4 Maxxis Tires? Anyone have any experience with Triangle other than you took them off b/c they were Chinese made?

  • Thats about a $200 difference , how much time and money for a road service call? Plus the safety factor . $ 200 isnt much when you consider the downside
  • I really had to laugh when I read your title "Triangle Tires". When I ordered our Arctic Fox 5'vr from Northwood MFG--I asked them what kind of tires came with the camper--the Rep said "Triangle", my immediate response was "Nope, I want round tires"---my sense of humor was not appreciated. When we got the camper it did have Triangle tires on it--I swapped them out for Goodyear Wranglers LT. I couldn't give away the Triangle tires--even my pool cleaner and gardner wouldn't take them. Eventually, I gave them to the Salvation Army. Have about 25,000 miles on the Goodyear Wranglers with no problems. Lars
  • I have to laugh. When I picture "triangle" tires they just seem to scream rough ride. Go with Maxxis. That's what I did and never regretted it.
  • While I have had good luck with ST tires, I have only owned 1 set of Chinese tires, and three of the 5 had sidewall failures well before the 1 year mark… the other 2 looked new but were removed and had holes drilled in the sidewalls to prevent them from being used by anyone else… these were OE Duro radial tires…

But in a very short time things have changed to where almost all ST tires are Chinese made and none of them will ever grace my TT… my choices that I am totally comfortable with are Maxxis, or changing wheel size and tire types… though a separate issue the country of origin matters to me…

On the positive side most ST tires do not fail, and most trailer owners aren’t even aware of the reported problems… so if you are comfortable with the tire and you made an informed decision, I am certainly OK with it, and you make a good case for not wanting to spend large amounts of money on your tires…
  • I understand that you say not to penny pinch...but my MileStars were chinese made and they lasted me (bought my TT in 2009) for 4 years before I did have a tire blow..fortunately, it didn't do much damage excpet to the underbelly which I just need to patch with some Tyvex tape. Everyone says you need to look a replacing your tires every 4-5 years anyway...so I guess that's where I'm struggling...I don't think there's a tire out there that gurantees a no blow out. I've read people having to replace their Maxxis in 2 years as well...so that's what I struggle with...paying twice as much for what some will say a peace of mind...not sure how much peace I would have should one of the Maxxis blow after I spend twice as much for them? Not questioning their quality as it seems to be the tire of choice...but most don't even give the other tires a chance before they swap them out.
  • Don't be pennywise and pound foolish as they used to say. Think Maxxis M8008

I never heard of Triangle tires, but I have heard of Maxxis and what I heard was good. BTW just how much damage do you think would occur if one of them blows? I' m betting a whole lot more than you will save on the tires. So that's my opinion, let's see where others go with it.

    x2
And don't forget the spare. Great idea to upgrade to D but ensure the rims can handle the extra PSI.
