Friday - Heading for the coast

We had a nice relaxed breakfast by the lake. Then we headed along the Telemark canal and found the staircase of locks approaching the coast.

We found another dump station - quite a flashy one this. When you lifted the cover water starts flushing down the pan. You then pull the pan out on wheels until it is under your vehicle:

We stopped for a snack at another lake:

Then we join the coast road, turning right away from Oslo.

I set the GPS to the wrong destination and because we were going in the right location only realised as we neared the ferry port at Langesund. So I decided to see if we could get a ferry this afternoon - people were queuing for it already. The woman at check-in said they had space, but not for a tall vehicle like ours - there was a waiting list. Interestingly she didn't mention the cost - I was wondering if we just turned up and asked and they had space they might let us on at no extra charge. Anyway, I was later glad we didn't get an earlier ferry.
So we drove to Kragero down the coast:

This is a really popular and pretty coastal town where it seems everyone has a boat. We walked along the harbour wall and then crossed a small bridge to an island with houses and a transmitter mast on its rocky summit.

With bad timing we found a quiet spot by the waterfront and opened our picnic. This stimulated a downpour of rain. To try to dry off a bit we decided to walk part way around the island then climb up to the rocky summit. However, it then rained again resulting in a very slippery descent.

We returned to the truck and turned the aircon on to dry us off, and then set the GPS for a campground further down the coast.
It was not our preferred type of campground. A large family campground with children's play areas and lots of vacation cabins. It was also really expensive - we were paying for lots of fancy facilities that we wouldn't use.
We found a spot down the bottom of the campground near a small marina:

After going for a short walk to the marina we returned to find a German class B had squeezed past us into the spot in the corner, quite close to us. They were a nice couple and it turned out they had been here a couple of weeks ago and booked that corner site. But the young guy at camp reception had just told us to camp anywhere. Maybe it was just a communication failure - he thought he was actually booking a specific site, and the guy on reception maybe thought he was just saying it was a nice spot and he would choose it again if it was free.
The marina was busy until late - with the sun still being up at 11 PM, people were making the most of the evening.
Stay tuned for our return to Denmark...
