Thanks for the trip report.
I concur, the Anza Borrego Desert is a very special place. It's a 2.5 hr drive from me in Orange County and I have been exploring/camping in that wonderful park since I was 18 years old and I am 61 now.
If I ever do leave So. Cal., I will definitely miss that wonderful park.
