IMHO from Sac head north on I5 and ar Weed take US 97 north. Beautiful drive and lots to see and do along the way. Either at the Columbia river or maybe a bit farther north head west pickingnup US101 at or near Astoria. The coast is best seen driving south. Fort Stevens is a great first stop with lots to see if you like history. Tillamook, Netarts Bay, dune buggies at Sand Lake, and dozensmof other places to stop. Redwoods back in CA and pick up 20 from Eureka back to I5 and home.
