It was two wheel drive extended cab with a 460 and every heavy duty option available. The main thing was that it only weighed 5,600lbs. Granted, the frame did flex a lot more than the new trucks do, and I do mean a lot. Still, I bought it for what it could carry and pull, not for what it weighed empty. That is what defines a heavy duty truck in my mind. By the way, the 250 was not offered in a crew cab in those days. While it was basically the same the truck the crew cab only came with F350 on the fenders.

First of all, you are certainly entitled to your OPINION, but that doesn't change fact. Its simply an opinion.

Second of all, a 1993 F250 has a GVWR of 7700 lbs, a F250HD has a GVWR of 8800 lbs. MAX payload with a 2wd reg cab longbed XL is 2610 lbs. I'm sure that Ford was still taking off the spare tire and bumpers to figure the payload back then too...

Normal base payloads for 1/2 ton crew cabs these days are around 1,000-1,500 lbs for a non tow packaged truck, tow package 1/2 tons are generally between 1,500-2,000 lbs, and unique trucks like the F150 HD are between 2,000-2,900 lbs. Of course once you start adding options then these base payloads will drop by a few hundred pounds if not more. My old F150 HD had a base payload of about 2,280 lbs and decked out with all of the options in a Lariat trim left it with about 1,950 lbs on the sticker.

Normal base payloads for crew cab 3/4 tons is between 2,500-3,500 lbs for gas engines and between 2,000-2,600 lbs for diesel 3/4 tons. Again, once you start adding options then this base payload will drop significantly. For example, the base payload for a Ram 2500 CTD crew cab 4x4 is about 2,300 lbs, but once you upgrade to a decked out Laramie package and add things such as Ram boxes, then you are left with about 1,900 lbs on your door sticker.

Both the Titan XD gasser and diesel still fall into the 3/4 ton payload ranges, but on the light side. The only other competitor to them is an F150HD which is what I would rather get instead of the Titan if I was in the market for that kind of truck.

When I saw the XD initially, the payload was much less. I think that it was around 1400? but it could have been 1700. Again its been about a year ago, I just recall seeing the payload and thinking that a normal 1/2 ton offered more. I still have not seen any literature from Nissan stating that its a 3/4 ton or marketed as such. Guys Im sure it could be out there, I just have not seen it, despite the numbers your posting above.

The Power Wagon definetly, I remember seeing much smaller payload numbers for the XD when it first came out. The last 3/4 ton truck I had was a 1991 F250 and as I recall it had a payload of 3,200lbs so the XD would still come up a little short. Also, I don't recall seeing a manufacturer using the "ton" description for their products in common speech so it may be a little of a misnomer anyway. Let's see, Nissan made a "1 ton" back in the '80s that was literally rated for one ton and Chevy used to make a "Heavy Half". Other than that it seems to be term used for convenience but of vague meaning.

Real world I bet an XD would tow quite a bit better than a standard half ton due to the higher curb weight and more substantial components. But if it's not reliable it's pretty useless.
