It's a constant game of leap frog and in the end as consumers we all benefit. Here's a good example:
In 2004 Nissan introduced the Titan which had way more power than any of the big 3 competitors - I think it was around 350HP/375TQ (just going from memory). I bought one and overall it was a great truck. That power plant is now pretty much the back of the pack and the Titan is usually about the worst selling 1/2 ton (do they even still make it?).
Similar examples hold true throughout all trucks. Any given year a manufacturer hits a homerun and delivers what the most consumers are looking for.
I went from my Titan to an 06 Duramax and have been very happy. I'm thinking of getting a new truck in the near future and to me the Dodge is at the top of my list because of the rear suspension and they seem to be priced less than the Chevy/GMC or Ford. Two years from now I'd probably have a different view.
It's just unfortunate when people put on blinders and would pay 40K for a turd if it had the right logo on it.
