Dodge 5500 with automatics all had 4.88 gears. 4.44 were optional with the manual. Dodge 4500 with auto all had 4.44, 4.10 optional with manual.
I would get a 4500 for just that reason. A crew cab 4 x4 should still have 7,300 pounds of payload left.
The Dodge turns sharper and has a larger fuel tank than the Ford. It also comes with a Cummins. I'd stay away from any 6.0 or 6.4 diesel. The 6.4 has a reputation as a fuel hog. The 6.0 is just a disaster, we have 2 at work. It's just one expensive repair after another.
