Well, you could also do as the folks who run/publish Truck Camper Magazine just did.
Get a 2014 Ram 3500 dually with the 6.4L gasoline Hemi engine.
And, (drum roll please :B) 6,314 pound payload capacity.
Yeah, know it is not a diesel, but the Truck Camper Magazine folks are reporting decent mileage, even with their camper loaded on board.
It is surely worth considering.
