Truck fun, not!

made our trip we'd planned for nearly a year safely and great trip. Got home with a new noise in the front end of truck. Determined bad hub that held together and didn't leave us along the road while away from home, thank God. Also leaking front axle seal and PCV hose. All fixed for a healthy sum. Good to go another 172,00 miles or so the game plan went. What wasn't planned was some dope pulling across 3 lanes of traffic in front of hubby and truck less than a mile from the dealership, crash! Front of truck smashed to the tune of, right now, over $2,000. Fortunately other guy has valid insurance but.... Now two days after the crash hubby in excruciating pain with shoulder and neck injuries of yet to be determined severity. He's the typical pain baby hubby but is in genuine big pain. Insurance will pay but in the mean time no income and trashed truck. It can be repaired but him, only time will tell. All traveling off the table for now. Guy only got a WARNING, go figure. Right before Christmas, feeling put upon yadadah yadadah, then get a phone call from one of the young guys that work with my husband that is poor as a church mouse. After coming home from visiting with his hospitalized grandmother he was confronted with his uncle at home, deceased. This is the second time for him after his grandpa went the same way and he found him also. Suddenly all our troubles are put in Crystal clear perspective, we're in great shape. All we have to do is look around a little and someone is in much worse shape than us. Think about it and everyone do whatever we can to help those around us and Merry Christmas to all, best wishes and safe travels.

    Trailgranny, Hang in there and take care of that old fart! I am a younger version of the same and we are just no good without our loving women.

    I am glad your hubby is feeling better. Has he seen a doctor? He should probably continue to have his injuries monitored for awhile for long-term damage or such that may manifest later. It sounds like you have and indomitable spirit which one needs to survive these days. Also, it helps to have that spirit for traveling. Happy trails.

    Good luck to you, I really hope for the best for outcome. Maybe do some driveway camping in your camper the next time you get a snowstorm? Crank up the heat, grab a small TV set and watch a good movie snuggled up and imagine the places you'll go sometime down the line. I'd like to think the big truck we drive will help keep is relatively safe but there are always bigger truck and bigger immovable objects. You just do the best you can and hope for the best. Safe travels for you in the future I hope.

    We never put a brush guard on the old dually for fuel mileage in the beginning and just never added it later. The big tow hooks in front absorbed most of the Ford Taurus impact the guy was driving. Surprised at the lack of visible damage to it! Good sales pitch for Ford I guess. Hubby mach improved, no more wincing, whining or yelling today. Maybe on the up swing and no real major long term problems. Already cut back on meds and he actually stoked the fireplace once today. Yippie! Did take pity on him and took out the trash and bought him a cozy camo soft robe to recover in. Did some minor things on TC and finish tomorrow in time to smoke turkey for Christmas dinner with kids. Ah, yes, life is good. Actually ran into some former TC folks at camper place today. It was actually one we tried to look at before we night the old Shadow Cruiser, it was a Lance. Even stranger was that they used to own a hard side Shadow Cruiser years ago and are also planning an Alaskan trip next year in their new to them 25' Journey MH. Three months I think they said. Would love to travel along but probably won't make that trip. World is really small. Anyway, life moving along as I figured it would if we just kept moving. :)

    We got tired of people pulling out in front of us, running reds, etc. especially on 101 so bought a Ranch Hand replacement bumper. They look twice now but there are still those who like to cheat death. Am sort of thinking we need to get one of those big honkin' expedition vehicles like Earth Roamer or a Fuso.     Hope all goes well. My advice, get a lawyer. You are dealing with lost income and bodily injury, with only a legal recourse at the reimbursement you are entitled to. The lawyer will deal with the mess with no upfront fee. Best of luck.

    Thanks for well wishes. In our situation a replacement truck wouldn't be an option so thankful truck can be repaired. Finally got old fart to take prescribed pain meds so he's not whining quite as much and we both get to sleep at night.LOL Long way from his heart, just close to his tender nerve endings. Got parts in yesterday to fix the tilting gen cargo tray that bugged me the whole trip so when done in body shop that gets fixed next. He'll be fine, tough old Bird. Anyone who still lays brick, block and rock at nearly 72 and has for 50+ years isn't a quitter. Gotta love the old bugger. We've dealt with a lot in our 46 years together just have to look at this as another experience along our road together. More good ones to come I'm sure.

    I understand, my truck was totaled and it's replacement is getting dialed in. One day at a time and soon we will be camping.

    Hang in there trailgranny, and make sure he obeys all the doctor suggestions, especially the physical therapy. With well wishes and spunk he'll be okay! Merry Christmas to you too.
