Truck Hydralic Auto-levelers

(I did search, hard to find leveling but nothing on the Auto-truck leveler) I did find this in the Big Boy Sectionsfind this in the Big Boy Sections, just thought something TC section might help - Admin delete if you think this is unnecessary)

Leveling:
There was a post somewhere in here with an older TC stating as an aside that he had "Truck Levelers", auto like the big boys.

I then saw another unrelated post indicating that maybe it wasn't a good idea as in, "...auto levelers, we all know how that goes..."

Unfortunately, this person (me) doesn't and has tried to find more about them.

Aside from them being expensive, apx $2300? once on, I would thing it would be great. (with a reminder that they are down when you pack up to go... red flag/tape?)

So, what, if any, is the issue for the auto-hydraulic leveler jacks that the big RVs use, push a button and wait.

A quick search I found some "Bigfoot""Bigfoot"... are they good?

thanks..

    What was I thinking??!! Ha!

    But, this got me thinking;
Instead of a traditional leveling system with rams that push down into the ground, what about a suspension adjustment? I have air bags on the back, where I can adjust the rear left to right. A remote built in pump would be a leveling system of sorts.

There are also air shocks that could do the job. A dual shock set-up, with one shock traditional damping and the other a lift/leveling system would be viable perhaps.

Maybe something those lowriders use on their cars? I think those are hydraulic and very powerful. Enough to get a car airborne even.

Just off the top of my head, most TC's are already over weight. We already have remote control jacks, just unhook the turnbuckles and you can level to your heart's content.
Simply seems like something that isn't needed since TC's have such short wheel bases compared to the 'Big Boys'.

I've been looking at either HWH Corp's or Bigfoot's units. For winter camping, for us, they'd be the ticket. There's also Equalizer Systems, Lippert and Power Gear to look at.

And I think 4k is more realistic for an installed system.
  • Additional weight and reduced chassis clearance seem to be the biggest cons to installing an auto-leveling system. Some jacks will not have enough extension to level a 4wd vehicle without hanging low under the frame.

For me, I never owned a system like this and therefore don't miss it. However, I find I do very little to level out at most campsites and can do most of the leveling by choosing a level area to camp instead of trying to level something that is uneven. Two 4x6 wooden blocks or nested plastic blocks is all I have needed when camped on a slope.
