truck question

Agreed, I carry my Hondas inside my camper, they really seal up nice, it’s just gas cans that reek.
The biggest trip I take involves a 50-gallon fuel tank and an extra 60 gallons of water, both fresh and grey. I’m kind of on the extreme end of carrying supplies.

We don't notice any gas odors from the small Honda tank with the vent closed. I made a hitch mounted bar that acts as a second set of rear tie downs that includes a couple welded brackets for two small fuel tanks for extra fuel. We've traveled like this for a couple years now (over 10,000 miles) and never had any issues whatsoever. Everyone's situation is different but this has worked for us :)

Thanks everyone for their suggestions. The seller texted me that he thought he had the rig sold to a "local"buyer.I am sad and will think about trying again. I am glad to have had the discussions and new information. I think that I would enjoy a TC Wander.

If storage is your concern and impetus for pulling the small trailer, consider removing the entire back seat and seat belt box from the truck. We have a crew cab and by removing the back seat (6 bolts and 10 minutes) plus another 5 minutes for the seat belt box you have a huge cargo bay. I cut a piece of 1/4 inch plywood to form a flat floor in the rear raised area and we carry a ton of stuff back there .... 2 zero gravity chairs, 2 fold out chairs, 1 large folding table, 2 small tables (legs unscrew), a 10 x 10 expandable pop up, a Honda Eu2000i, a large camera bag (3 cameras & accessories), a large backpack for my Phantom 3 drone, a 24 pack of bottled water and 3 large "milk crate" type crates with typical camping gear (hose, electrical cords, adapters, tools, etc etc). Then on long trips we add another couple crates with dry goods for extended stays

Cape Cod, I didnt even think about trailer brakes on the trailer but I am going to check if there are some. And I thought it would be simple. Yes it is a long bed.(Grit) Only RWD which may be a problem in my neck of the woods. Thanks for all the information. BTW I went to burning man and was astonished at how much I enjoyed the experience. Not all S,D, and rock and roll.I had a 5th wheel then and went with friends. Probabaly TMI. Anyway I love the truck, my sis has a 7.3 D with over 300 ranch miles! The TC is what I am not too sure about.With all the positivity expressed here I am going to look at the combo. If I don't like the confines of the camper, would it be hard to drive to a dealer and trade up-down or sideways for a small 5th wheel? Thanks for any thoughts from experience.

Some people will say the 7.3 is the best Power Stroke. Lighter and simpler than even the 6.7 made by Ford. Yeah, every diesel since ‘94 has been a PSD in spite of them not being built by Ford. :). Look it up or just look at the side of the Ford trucks.

Anyway, as long as you have high rated tires at 3700 or so, I think you are good. Will it be an awesome hauler? No. But, it should be ok for light use. Tongue weight + TC weight is the limiting factor when towing for most trucks.

Being able to pull a trailer, even a really heavy one, is one of the main reasons I have a truck camper and not a motorhome. I always had boats or a flatbed behind mine, on 250s 350s and even a beefed up 150 years ago. (Ok so I broke the rear axle using a 150... maybe don’t do that.)
That diesel F250 will do the job. Hitch up and go.
Adding a relatively small trailer - or even a big one - isn’t going to increase the sway. Sometimes I think my truck & camper actually drive nicer with the trailer on.
Your diesel F250 has extremely stout drivetrain parts. The biggest and maybe only area of concern is the rear tires, those are probably your weakest point.
It might be worth considering swapping to larger diameter wheels and tires from a later model truck, “take offs” from someone who swapped to big poser mud tires. The larger diameter ones have higher weight ratings.
And they look cool.

It's all about what your comfy with,with a TC on the truck.I hauled a Lance Sqire 8.6 on my Ford F-250 with the only mod being Helwig helper springs..It traveled really good,as good as my Lance 9.6 on my Ford F-350 DRW..That's my point..

I have all but the exact truck camper as the Lance 915...Sticker says 2582 or something similar..Loaded to the hilt it is weighing in at 37-3800 pounds ready for the hills.

I can tell it's on my DRW and I have the rear sway bar and air bags..Would my F-250 haul it as well..No way,but it would haul it with the extra sway that would come with it.

So I am just saying,it is all about what your comfy driving..Yes,your F-250 will haul that 915 but you will have some sway just like most TC's give..
