You are partially correct, but you are over simplifying it !
If you ran #00 gauge from the alternator to the TC house battery/inverter you would still only get about 13.2V ! That would probaby be enough to run your inverter, but it is NOT enough to recharge depleted house batteries. Why ? Because the PCM controls the charging voltage of the battery. Even on a big diesel, the PCM ASSUMES that it only need to replace the energy in the truck batteries that was used to start the truck.
A car/truck alternator is the WRONG TOOL to recharge house batteries, especially deep discharge batteries.. PERIOD !!!
