The 3500 is the only way to go - dually may be the best in your case - give some margin on the GVWR.
Another item to consider - In New York state with that RV and truck I would need a class R license - another road exam with the truck and RV. The class R license would allow me drive/tow with a total GVWR (truck and trailer) greater than 26,000 lbs.
Depending on weight of truck, don't think OP will go over 26,000#...haven't weighed my truck yet, but even with my 5er loaded to almost 16,000#, I'm not at 26,000# total
OP probably WON'T load his 5er to the GVW of 16,500# or whatever it was, but should PLAN for max GVW, (better safe than sorry), but again, don't see him hitting the 26,000# mark even with a dually and his 5er....might be close, but don't think it'll hit or go over the 26,000#. (it's a moot point in NC, special license not needed here as long as you're towing your own 5er for recreatiional purposes, not commercial) Oh, GCWR (gross COMBINED weight rating, which is truck and whatever you towing, combined). GVWR is gross VEHICLE weight rating (amount TRUCK is recommended to weigh no more than, when loaded...just a number around here, it's kicked out and RAWR is used more often than not by some, if not most:)...
Looks like OP is in TX...they may not have the requirements in TX that you have in NY.
