- n7bsnExplorerFrom the factory, that trailer came with tires only rated for 65 mph
The cargo pod on the back certainly reduced the weight on the hitch.
He was going too fast, both for control and for his tires
He didn't know what to do, in several levels.
Lastly the trucker may not have stopped for a number of reasons, Haz cargo, "special" cargo, company rules, etc. - larry_barnhartExplorerI can only think he was going too fast. dumb
chevman - newman_fulltimeExplorer IIthis was shown the other day
- Hey at least the camper landed back on its tires. Back truck up to camper hook back up and go.
- coolbreeze01ExplorerBest part is how quickly he backed off the road.
Good of the trucker to keep going and not create a needless roadblock. - apr67Explorer

TT's make up the lion share of the industry. - the_bear_IIExplorerThe driver towing the TT probably over corrected with each sway so the oscillations kept getting worse. If the driver had just hit the TT brakes everything would have straightened out and no rollover.
At the first sign of sway keep your foot on the gas, hold the steering wheel straight and use the TT brakes to stop the sway. Then slow down. - ACZLExplorerAs a friend of mine told me before we bought our coach, "Which type of RV's do you see involved in accidents the most?" Not to say 5ers are not involved in them, just less of 'em. I agree w/ others that speed, weight on hitch, sway/weight dist hitch all factor into safe TT towing. Not to mention many who don't have tow mirrors on the TV's. See that a LOT here in NY especially towing enclosed snowmobile trailers.
- blofgrenExplorerOur first RV was a Prowler 24' travel trailer with no slides and tin wall so it was quite light. We first pulled it with a F-150 and then a F-250 diesel. The F-250 was much better but sway was still an issue at times. We now have the unit in our signature and the fifth wheel has a pin weight of approximately 4,000 lbs. The increased stability of the dually truck with the fifth wheel is amazing compared to our much smaller and lighter travel trailer.
- apr67ExplorerMy guess is not enough tongue weight.
