What about gas mileage differences?
Worrying about fuel economy of your TV while towing an aerodynamic "brick" is a waste of time. We previously owned a fifth wheel that loaded for travel weighed a little over 12000 lbs, towed by a Ram 3500 diesel. Typical fuel mileage depending on terrain: 9.5 to 11.5 mpg.
We now have a travel trailer with a different front profile that weighs half as much, towed by the same TV. Fuel mileage I'm seeing now, typically 12.5-13.0 mpg. This is with a diesel. I can assure you towing a TT with anyone's half ton truck will net you high single digit, maybe 10 mpg.
As far as fifth wheels that can be towed by a half ton truck, so few on the market it's not worth discussing.
