TT Tipup Risk

I am familiar with the PUP tip up. Kind of a cheap thrill ride, except it never came back down on the tongue jack boards. :) :)

With a TT most of the weight is often in the front storage, there are tandem axels and the axels are set back towards the rear of the TT. As stated I have never heard of a TT tipping up.

Axles are typically approx. 2/3 the way from the coupler to the bumper. If tongue weight was 500 lbs for ex., you'd need 1,000 lbs on the bumper to balance out the tongue wt. to zero. You're never ever going to see that kind of wt. on a bumper (or near it inside) unless you had a Harley (or two on a longer trailer) on a carrier...

When unhitched and without the stabilizer jacks down: how much weight is required behind the rear axle to lift the tounge? When I had a popup this was a valid concern... it was quite easy to accidently lift the front of the camper with weight applied behind the rear axle. Is this not an issue with tandem axle trailers?

My WAG would probably be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000lbs give or take and with that being within 1 foot of the end of the trailer. I would bet about 60-75% (closer to 75% or even a tad more) of the total trailer's weight is forward of the rear axle and to get the trailer to rotate back on that axle is going to take more weight than you would ever be able to get far enough back in the trailer.

Another guess might be to take your actual tongue wt and multiply that by the distance from the rear axle to the ball divided by the distance from the rear axle to where you can add all the weight and that should just negate the tongue wt lever.

I would imagine you would have to have 600lbs back there to lift the front of the trailer. its not a non issue, rather highly unlikely unless you throw a party in the back of a trailer!

Especially with tandem axles. The trailer can't just rotate on the single axle to lift the hitch...it would have to overcome the springs on the rear axle or lift the axle off the ground.

I too have a popup and am all too familiar with forgetting to put the stabilizers down and tipping it up.

I've never heard of an issue with a regular travel trailer.

We had the exact same size TT. I know that we had around #300+ of three people and #100 of bikes on the back and nothing ever happened. I don't think it's an issue. If you have stab jacks it can't move anyway.

Many years ago we had our 22 foot TT parked next to the house. Being our first TT I never thought about blocking the wheels. Well, we had a wind storm come through the area. When I got home my TT had been pushed back about 20 feet and was sitting over a 4 foot drop off nose high in the back yard. How much did it take to push it backwords? No idea, but it sure can happen.

My trailer is tandem axle 19 long ready to camp weight is 3,500. Never even a sign of tipping back. In fact I have never heard of this happening. Tandem axle makes the difference. So in short NO WORRIES
