I think the Pathfinder's towing capacity will really make it difficult for you to find a hybrid big enough to suit your needs. So, I agree with the suggestion to stay with the pop-up until you can purchase a tow vehicle with more towing capacity. We were pop-up tent campers for 10 years and didn't move up to a travel trailer until the boys were in college.
Whether you move up to a hybrid or a travel trailer is a personal choice. The biggest issue is that you must have the ability to open up the unit when you get home and dry things out (when necessary). But a good hybrid can make a smaller trailer (and lighter) seem a lot larger. I still miss sleeping under canvas but I have to store my trailer off site, so dealing with wet bunk ends would be a problem.
