My thought process on this was a little different. I had the half ton and it pulled great even though I was basically at or slightly over the GVWR; the nagging thought I had was if there was an accident and it was my fault. If I had an accident and it was my fault with my half ton and I tragically took someones life how would I sleep at night? If the same thing happened with my one ton how would I sleep at night? I am probably not sleeping that well in either case, but if I killed someone in the half ton I can assure you I will be up a lot longer…I would know there is something I could have MAYBE done before the accident even happened that MAY have prevented it in the first place.
I have my kids, my wife in my truck and also the other souls sharing the road with me; I feel I have a responsibility to do what I can to ensure their safety. With that, I try my best not to pass judgment on others and the decisions they make. But, I also think the bigger truck allows me to better compensate for the decisions others make. I haven’t yet need to use any of the additional capacity to this point…but come that moment when I might, the few thousands it cost me to upgrade will payoff tenfold if it saves either my family or someone elses.
Just my thoughts.
