We’ve getting ready to upgrade from a 30’, 6,000 lb. fully loaded TT to a 35’, 8,500 lb. dry TT. I’ve been pulling the one we have now with a ½ ton Silverado and its done ok and I’m sure I could have hooked the one we’re looking at up to the ½ ton and got it down the road.
But I chose to move up to a ¾ ton Silverado with the 6.6 Duramax/Allison BEFORE we bought the new TT. I just bought the truck in mid-November and haven’t had a chance to pull anything with it, but I think I can say fairly confidently, when I do get to tow—either camper—there won’t be any comparison. It’s a lot more truck than I need for the one we have now but 397 hp., 750 lbs. of torque, and that exhaust brake will be looking awfully good when we hit the hills of Tennessee next summer.
I’d rather have more truck than I need and give myself a cushion for those unexpected moments on the road than to be running maxed out all the time. For our situation, I’ll take this truck over ANY ½ ton. But that’s just me.
