I guess some of you are not familiar with the 1970's vintage Ford F-250's for which I was comparing the newer F-150's too.I owned and towed with one for years.
So I will help you out here with a flash back to the F-250 of the 70's... And they weren't all properly equipped as were learning here about the newer F-150.:D

The Ford F250 with the 5.8-liter eight-cylinder engine is a capable towing vehicle. When properly equipped it can tow up to 10,000 pounds. This is enough to pull a large camper or boat trailer. Trailers of this size require electric braking systems which are powered via a brake controller installed in the F250. Trailers are also required by the U.S. Department of Transportation to have working brake, signal and marker lights. Testing these lights prior to every trip is a good way to avoid having a conversation with a police officer.
