Just set your brake controller correctly and then you will know by experience. Go on a back road about 20 MPH and manually brake (all the way) with the controller switch. No truck brakes. You want a setting just below where the trailer brakes lock up. Some go up until lockup then back down 1. Others will say when the trailer brakes alone bring the truck and trailer to a nice even stop. Everyone has their own way to set the brake controller number. Once you get it right you will get a better feel for what it should be doing. Then if it doesn't feel like that you can reset the controller again if need be.
