My tanks are shut off when I travel. Yes, at filling stations and tunnels there are laws/regulating few follow, but consider even the most minor accidents that could occur. You've got bare tubing and connections prime to break open if impacted. You really want an LP gas leak post accident?
And what about a different perspective? Cost. LP fridges can eat up LP pretty quick. If you have the option to use 12v, USE IT! Its FREE.
If not, use a cooler or buy food at your destination.
