Your more likely to be blown up by some idiot smoking at the gas pumps than by a pilot light 30' away from your vehicle.
I used to cut mine off, till I thought it thru. Now I don't.
My F-150 EB has a 36 gallon tank, so I can go a long way between fill ups. Most of my tows are a little less than a tank away.
I like to fill up at home, hook up, tow, un-hook, then fill up...
Makes it very easy.
