Hi,
There is no need to turn off the propane tank.
It is wise to remove all possible sources of ignition. I'm fortunate to have a disconnect switch just behind and above the drivers seat. That makes it exceptionally easy to interrupt the power to all the possible ignition sources.
I turn it off a block before I approach the gas station, and resume power after I have left the station well behind.
