TV aux inbed fuel tank

Planning to have an aux fuel tank and transfer system installed in my 2013 chevy duramax dully. I have not decided on the tank type or size. Would like to know who makes the best tank and transfer system?
  • I have a 60 gallon (usually fills at 40?). Convenient. You can also stock up on cheap fuel.

IMHO I would get a TransferFlow stock replacement tank and not loose the space in the bed.

I have a stock 35 gallon tank and have never wished for a larger tank. I really like the large storage I have with my HighwayProducts bed height 30" deep storage box.

I think too many people THINK they NEED the larger tank.

    ^ this

stock is 36 gallon and I usually fill up with about 100 miles to go and takes about 30 gal. A 60 gallon replacement gives 24 more gallons however with the tank being bigger you still won't get all of it out; say 10-12 gallons, so you really only can 18-20 gallons.

to me its not worth $1200 to go an extra 200 miles or about 2 hours. heck after 5 hours, stock fuel tank run time towing, I need to stretch my legs anyhow.

  • My Transfer-Flow box is 50 gallons plus tool on top. First installed in 2002, replaced pump and electronics when moved to different truck in 07. Just keeps on ticking.
If I were to do it again, would probably look at larger replacement tank. There have been enough times where use of the full bed length would have been nice.
  • I used to have a Western "fuel & tool". I think they still make them. Lower portion was about 50 gal of fuel and top portion was a tool box. It was so well made that I used for several different trucks. Stood just box rail high and did't take too much room . Might google it.
  • It looks like you are headed for the more expensive is better advice. :h

Anyhow, I got mine from Nationwide Wholesalers. It was built by RDS in Perry Fl to my dimensions. It cost less through nationwide than going direct to RDS. However I did my own plumbing and gauge hook up.

I ran a gravity flow for over 10 years in my ole psd with no problems whatsoever. It had a small (3/8) tube feeding into the main that filled about 2 times the rate of the fuel being guzzled by the 7.3.
  • Had the Titan 52 gallon tank installed in my 06 Duramax. It replaced the factory tank. We then went on a 14,000 mile trip. Very pleased with this upgrade. Cost a little more, but didn't lose bed space, still used the original fill system, no other mods required.
  • I had a Gravity one in my 07 DRW and found it to be sooooo ssssllllloooooowwwwww. I would have to leave the gravity fill line open constantly or the truck would burn it faster than it could refill. On my new 13 DRW I am going to go with a Transfer Flow with the TraxII that transfers via a pump and is hooked into the trucks computer so that it won't set the CEL. With the gravity one...the truck can't figure out why you are burning fuel, but the tank is still full.
  • google it. https://www.google.com/search?q=gas+transfer+tank+truck&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

just depends on what you want and you might lose ability to have a tool box.
