Hey Bob,
I agree I could be totally wrong on my thoughts as well.
All the degrading I'm referring to may not be significant enough to matter.
But on the other hand while I loved my 07 Duramax it was a great truck that started fine all the time and never let me down. I did not get rid of it at 300K because it was running better than it did when it was brand new. I got rid of it because it was old and in some respect worn out.The idea of being worn out applied to the entire truck including the starting system as well. While is some respect a engine loosens up as it ages, gears and bearing, pulleys etc. stiffen up as they wear. Teeth wear and do not lock in as they should. Bearings loose lubrication and don't roll as easy.
Unless your getting your diesel from the "Fountain of Youth" all mechanical things wear and lose efficiency with time
I think we have to agree to disagree on this one which is fine. I think your thread generated a decent discussion and allowed for various opinions, which is what this forum is all about.
At the end of the day you still need to get those batteries. Hopefully the RV.net self proclaimed battery gurus gave you some helpful insight into finding the right batteries. Good Luck getting it all sorted out.
