Not to beat a dead horse on this topic, however, we currently own a 2006 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer (mileage 154,000) with a factory Class 3 Hitch (no HD tow package). It is equipped with the 5.4L V-8 with a 3.73 axle ratio and we have added the brake control.
We just bought a Keystone Passport Grand Touring Ultra Lite 2980RL and the ride home was scary. We used our WD system, but chose not to put on the sway bars, which was our first mistake. There was considerable sway when trucks passed. We live in Florida and will be mainly towing within the State, not up in the mountains. Cargo will consist of two adults and 3 mid sized dogs, 3 metal dog crates in the TV and 3 in the TT.
The dry weight of this TT is 5620, length 32.9 feet, hitch weight 650. My question is: is this Expedition capable of towing this trailer "as is". If not, are there modifications that we can we make to keep this TV for towing this trailer? The SUV is in great condition and we hate to let it go, but if we are looking for trouble towing this trailer - we would like to know NOW and make the change...
Sounds like you don't have a rear sway bar. Check and see. If not, get a Hellwig and this should improve things immensely.
