So why isn't the 3.5 turbo the base engine for the 3/4 & 1 ton trucks?

It's certainly got the power. I wonder if the 10,000lb tow rating for the 1/2 ton are assuming almost no one will do it but once you jump up to the bigger trucks, you will get people pushing those limits.
