The article you quote mentions nothing about a twin turbocharged 4.8 for Ford trucks. It simply states that a 4.8 V8 will replace the 5.0. And then at the very ends SPECULATES that they could use forced induction to power a Mustang.
My speculation is that you will never see a turbo V8 gas engine in a truck - it simply will be unable to meet CAFE requirements.
Agreed. I said this years ago and got booed by some on this forum. :B Several people on this forum said they knew for 100% sure Ford was coming out with a V8 Ecoboost in 2014. :R
The only way I could see Ford doing this by making a from scratch HD V8 engine with only a few lbs of boost to compensate for altitude changes and putting out about 375 to 400 HP or so. With cylinder deactivation this engine would make pretty good mileage figures at cruise. A scratch design would also allow Ford to make a real tuff HD and high duty cycle engine. The 3.5 is Ecoboost is neither one of those.
On edit:
I will say this. With the new administration coming in office all bets are off. You might see some crazy engine combo's if the president elect cuts back on funding to the EPA. :E If he cuts back on smog laws I could see some crazy combo's getting put out on the street. It's could be a wild ride in more ways than one! :B
