To this day it was the only stock diesel truck I have ever driven that could put down two patches of rubber off the line. It was a great sounding engine too.
However, they proved to have some real weak spots in their reliability over the long haul. They can be made better but it's costly.
For 3K I'd buy it and run it until it breaks.
I bought a 1986 CUCV which was basically a 1Ton Chevy K30 with 5/4 ton suspension and a 24 Volt electrical system from a government auction with 40,000 miles on it. I religiously changed the oil and filters and the crank snapped at less than 100,000 miles.
The 6.2/6.5 were not very good motors at all.
