Under the bed storage

There’s another thread on here about over the bed storage. I’ve read threads that mostly complain about what a pain it is getting to and utilizing the area under the bed.
Our Dart has a system they call SkyTotes. There are 4 plastic wicker baskets on each side of the bed In 2 openings. Very easy to get to and remove. We can take them into the house, load clothes, and put them back.
The front of the bed has an opening that holds 2 large Rubbermaid containers, one behind the other. We use one as a hamper and the other for bed linens. Again, very easy to remove and take to the house or laundry.
I really wish I could take credit for coming up with this system as it is the best use of the space I have ever seen.
I thought I’d put this out there for the folks who like to piddle around and change things in their campers. This would be a fairly simple project to complete.
  • Under our queen bed we actually store folding chairs, table, grill table, etc. (front bedroom so that weight is in a great spot); under the kids bottom bunk we just use laundry baskets. Easy in, easy out. I'll have to look at the system you're describing though. I'm intrigued.
  • My trailer has that inside storage under the front Queen. It is a PITA though since we have a Memory foam mattress pad which makes the mattress heavy and awkward. So what the OP has, is that something that modified that inside storage? Right now we have blankets and sheets in there, with plenty of room available.

  • The storage area is about 28" long behind the front pass through wall and 21" tall. The baskets are 12" x 15" x 5 1/2" tall and 9 1/2" tall.
  • Now that is actually very cool indeed! I could easily do that with mine. Thanks for posting the pics.
  • I made three under-bed storage drawers with shallow trunk storage above.

I cut three drawer openings in the original plywood bed base with a hand saw. The drawers are simple plywood boxes mounted to full extension slides. A mitered frame made from inexpensive oval casing is glued to the front of the box. The frame is sized so that it overlays the drawer opening and coveres the slide hardware. I made a false bottom above the drawers to create a storage space directly under the bed.

That’s nice, too. I did 2 full width drawers in a previous camper.
