I think they don't want you using it as a breaker bar and exceeding its capabilities. When breaking bolts loose people usually apply as much pressure as needed, not just a limited torque.
ON the "clicker" type, at least mine says don't use (or can't use) to undo stuff. That is partially why I also have the old style "pointer". To see what torque was, as in past tense.
