Upgrade RV Entertainment System

Personally, I gave up on the 'sound' my NL produced shortly after purchasing it. Others have had some success in merely replacing the OEM speakers with quality models from other vendors.

My solution was to get a Bose soundlink to stream music from my phone/ipad's. While Bose no longer makes the soundlink, there are dozens of OEM's+models of bluetooth speakers available. Added benefit is that these are portable so can be brought outside to the picnic table with you while camping.

I would however suggest demo'ing whatever your considering in person before buying. While some have remarkable sound others not so much. Price does not seem to dictate the quality of the sound emitted from these devices.

I put a Polk soundbar with wireless subwoofer in. It will bluetooth music from my wife phone if she wants. Also put in Blueray player and HD TV in LR. Nothing in BR. This is basically the same system I had in the mammoth.

Sub installed. Need to tidy up some wiring...

Everything tested out fine: Bluetooth, HDMI, Aux Audio In, AM/FM, DVD/CD. Very happy with the receiver, speakers and sub. I will tie up all of the wiring and button it up tonight. Almost done!

A friend of mine built the frame. We tried to the match wood and color, came pretty close! The frame was required to pull the receiver an inch out from the wall (it was 1 inch deeper than the old one).

All wired up and testing sound. It is much better than my old one. I still need to hook up the TV via HDMI and RCA Audio in from the TV.

It fits nicely in the wardrobe behind the receiver. I like that it is fairly flat and wont take up too much space.

The subwoofer I originally purchased came heavily damaged. Here is the new one. I will be installing the new receiver and sub this weekend. I will post up final install and review of the system.

Well, it rained all day here in the Northwest, and my stuff showed up last week. I decided to start getting it together.

Old speakers were ok, but I wanted a little more punch.

(only 3 are pictured). When I pulled out the old ones, they were covered in saw dust. I cleaned up the holes with sandpaper and vacuumed real good.




Old receiver. I need to cut the hole about an inch taller. Aslo, my new system is about an inch deeper. I will have to create a frame out of wood to mount the new unit on.


Had to fish wires for new HDMI and TV sound out to the receiver.

Here is the sub being test fit. I got a cover for it so it won't get easily damaged.



And this will be going in tomorrow.


Finally, in order to get to stuff behind the receiver you access it from within the closet behind the paneling. I noticed some moister in there due to a badly sealed TV antenna (prior owner). I'll fix that as soon as it stops raining.
