upgrades to improve towing in a 2001 Expedition?

Subject truck has a towing capacity of 7100 lb. Adequate to pull our 5500 lb Vintage trailer around (74 Boles Aero) and there are no plans to trade in the truck. I'm a middle aged guy with two kid...

3.73 will only get you 500lbs more towing cap. Good news is. You won't need to flash the computer for the speedo. A cheaper way to get the same 500lbs, would be to go down a tire size. IF you are running 17s, you will gain 500lbs by going to 16s. Same if you are running 18s and going to 17s. You will however need to flash the computer for that change.

So IF you do both, a gear change, and a tire size change. You will get 1000lbs.

This is per the Ford owner's manual.
