upgrades to improve towing in a 2001 Expedition?

Subject truck has a towing capacity of 7100 lb. Adequate to pull our 5500 lb Vintage trailer around (74 Boles Aero) and there are no plans to trade in the truck. I'm a middle aged guy with two kid...

Find a 2007+ when you are ready to replace it for the 6-spd trans. I would have loved to have the 6-spd in my 2003 F-150. It was a great truck.
