You're renting a model to see how it works in a boondocking environment. Sounds to me like you'll answer your own question which is, how will it work FOR YOU!
Issues on unlevel sites aren't any different for TT's or pop ups. You want your TT level, just like you (Im sure) wanted your pop up level. There's all sorts of ways to have equipment to ensure you are able to obtain an acceptable degree of 'level'.
I suspect dragging a pop up through the woods is easier than dragging a TT through the same woods. Pop Up is lower to the ground, so not affected by overhanging trees. TT will be.
Other than that, not sure what else you're asking....

I know it will be a tougher task leveling with anything above a modest grade for a TT given the footprint, where I could level my popup almost anywhere. My question derives from reading reviews of very formal campgrounds with where many complained of pot holes, dirt roads and sites that were not level. I have been to these sites, so know them to be easily accessible and flat, though sure not "perfectly level". I extracted that these people were used to asphalt and expected the sites to be perfectly level so they would not have to do anything other than flip the supports out. It surprised me at the numbers of complaints, so it made me question the culture being the type/size of the rig, or type of "camping" these people were used to. So, my attempt here is to understand if these "high" expectations were of a limited few, or across the entire TT community and if base on limitation or preference.
As you said the rental will help me a bit, though I don't want me, or more likely my wife to be clouded by the luxury... As I indicated, with age, I am using my popup less in the last couple years only because of the time and effort it takes to setup and take down. I only have so many more years before the kids are gone, so I do not want to letup on the gas...
