I think the OP is asking if having a travel trailer means the end of really remote boondocking. The answer is no, you can do some fairly serious boondocking with a trailer. (See the links in my signature for more info.)
But a trailer is not a truck camper. And a long trailer with luxurious slides is not a shorter minimal trailer. And a trailer with low ground clearance is not like one that has been modified for off roading. In any event, I would guess that a hard sided trailer has to be towed a little more slowly on a rocky road than a rugged pop-up would be, so the lower speeds would limit your range a little.
For example, I have never gotten more than 20 miles from pavement with my trailer, because it takes me two hours to go the 20 miles while driving carefully. (I have been passed by other folks going a lot faster with trailers and fifth wheels and toy haulers on really rough dirt roads -- they have more courage than I do and may not be as paranoid as I am about structural damage.)
Bottom line -- go for it, dude! You only live once. (Not sure why that's relevant, but it's the truth.)
