The Dodge brakes are not the best in the world. But the engine brake is.
How does the Jake Brake do going down steep mountain passes?
One word fantastic!
Pulling a 13,500 pound fiver and coming west off of MtHood 6+% grade as long as there are no idiots in front of me, my exhaust brake is all I need to maintain comfortable decent. Actually that is not quite true. It supplies enough braking force that I do have to use a bit of throttle to maintain a decent speed. Given a chance the EB can have me down under 20MPH on that decent.
There has been a lot of discussions on the proper rear end ratio for the new trucks. My "old" 2007 6.7L dually cane with the 4.10 rear end. Best ever non towing economy I have seen is 18, while best towing is 11.5. Not bad considering. The thing i can do that others may not be able to do is tow all day with the cruise control on. I think for a TC which is not going to be nearly the weight of a large fiver the 3.42 would be fine for 75% of the population. If I were going for a new truck and ordering it it would probably come with the 3.72's. It is highly unlikely your going to have much choice with a left over 2013. But ordering a new 2014, get what you can.
