Unfortunately, I have zero gearing options on the SRW models I'm looking at. They all have 3.42 axles. All of my trucks in the past have had 3.73s which I've really liked. That's why I'm a little apprehensive about the 3.42s.
From the 13/14s Ram forums, most 3,42 complaints seem to be just over the lack of choice. Big positive is the low rpm/high mpg benefits when empty. Biggest complaint is likely about the frequent gear hunting with the 3.42 with the two overdrive transmission even without a load. Have you test driven a new Ram 3500 SRW? Seems to me with the high torque available gearing is less of an issue today.
I agree. I don't think it's an issue with the insane amount of torque the CTD provides. I have driven a 3500, 3.42RE, but not under load. I'd like to hear from those on this forum who have driven a CTD 2500/3500 3.42 axle under load.
