Ford, GM and Ram, all have jumped through hoops to meet those EPA requirements..didn't cheat, didn't lie...they didn't have to..VW got caught...they should pay...Ford, GM or Chrysler/Ram would have to, why should VW allowed to get away with lying? They sure shouldn't be given a free pass for deception.

Don't know about the gassers...VW issue was with DIESEL. IF Ford wasn't meeting EPA requirements, I'd imagine we see all kinds of recalls, or quite a few story line in the news about this....I haven't..no lying, no deception...Make your country perfect, THEN, you can work on ours..:R

You have media outlets, politicians, actors, banks, singers, and just about everybody else, including religious figures, lying these days.

Then you have almost impossible, unscientific requirements imposed on manufacturers of diesel vehicles, saying they have to meet the same pollution standards as gasoline vehicles.

Hello !...Gasoline and diesel are two completely different fuels, from a chemical point of view. One is short chain hydrocarbons, one is long chain hydrocarbons. Different boiling points, flash points, molecular weights, density, etc. You name it, they are different.

Yes, they both undergo combustion, but combustion occurs differently for long and short chain hydrocarbons. The kinetics of the combustion reaction are different.

I think VW made the only logical choice they could. You will see more of this, as political requirements are not guided by scientific principles.

The EPA are nothing but a bunch of political hacks who have forgotten what their purpose is (if they ever knew), and have no clue about science.

Whether you agree with the law or not, it is law now...whether you and I like it or not..it is what it is..VW lied and used deception so they could sell their import in our country...They need to pay and pay big..Ford, GM or Chrysler would all have had to pay through the teeth..What's good for the goose is good for the gander,...The mighty German made automaker blew it, so much for THEIR technology.. VW got caught and they should pay..It's just that simple

All that aside, MY issue with this thread isn't with you, it's with an Australian chiding American products, asking if we're going to lie and cheat to make our vehicles compliant...I say to him...take a walkabout and worry about the many vehicles your country produces, along with your country's manufactured RV's, you know, where you are a citizen of that country..and have earned that right...you haven't in this country.
