I may be mistaken, but I do not believe that our Aussie friend was chiding American products, but I am upset with his title and implication of law-breaking.
I had seen this information in AutoNews, and did not post it because I would be considered bashing Ford. As a GM employee, I try to not provoke arguments regarding other Automakers. I try to provide objective, direct feedback.
What VW did was illegal. They built software to cheat on tests. Ford developed the best they could, and will pay the allowable payment for missing.
Bob Lutz had criticized the GM engineers for not achieving the diesel capabilities that VW achieved. Bob and the GM engineers were not surprised.
Every company that is under government regulations decides how to best meet the regulations while making a profit. I expect many automakers will continue to pay to miss the requirements.
