- BubbaChrisExplorerA) I have heard from folks who like to dial their controller up while on the freeway so it reacts more strongly to sudden requests for braking.
B) I always give mine a little pinch to test it right as we're leaving home or a CG.
C) As others have suggested, a little manual braking from the TT alone can help straighten out and stabilize your whole rig. I'm having a hard time convincing my DW that if things get really hairy our Ford's automatic stability program will kick in and she doesn't have to have 2 hands on the steering wheel in that situation (and by reaching down with one hand to tweak the trailer is more likely to keep it from escalating to that point). - Scott_PExplorerI found a GM produced video on YouTube that was very helpful when learning how to the trailer brake in my Sierra. Much easier to understand than the manual.
- Rick_and_CarolExplorerThanks all for your help. I think I have got it.
- APTExplorerYes, read the vehicle's owners manual on how to adjust the brake controller. Once it is set, you should rarely have to touch it.
You should also verify you have the appropriate relays for charging the trailer batteries and trailer brakes installed in the distribution box. I'm pretty sure my Suburban came with them in the glove box. Again, your owners manual will list where those are. - alenkExplorerIf you don't find something in your Yukon manual, (if it is an aftermarket add-on, you won't) you can get the name off of the Brake Control with model number, and use that to locate their Website. Then find their downloadable manual and take it from there.
Hope this helps.
Al - rbpruExplorer III would think the Yukon manual would tell you how it is supposed to be set up.
- Y-GuyModeratorYou'll want to read your owners manual to learn about it, and how to adjust it. Once you have it set it's pretty much automatic, but from time to time you should check the settings and adjust accordingly.
The biggest thing is being able to reach for the manual activation switch in case your trailer beings to sway. Learn how to apply the manual activation switch so you can bring your trailer back in control in an emergency.
