Using TT as guest house

My father is flying in and spending a few nights at my home. I have firmly requested he sleeps in my TT. I figure he will use the bathroom in my house though. I have plenty of unused bedrooms and bathrooms in the house, but don’t have another bed setup (only sofas). The RV will be plugged in to electricity, the water tank will have some water. The TT has ducted A/C.

I figure this is reasonable… can anyone else that has done this comment? (obviously) being an camper myself, I would prefer this- he is not an camper though.

  • Personally, I would prefer to sleep in someone's tt than in their guest bedroom. However, my mother and my mother in law would be offended if asked. 'Why don't I want them to sleep in the house?' they would wonder. If I explained to them gently that I was enabling them to have their privacy and their own space, they might go for it. But I would have to make sure they felt they could have the run of the house, too, and that they weren't being banished.
  • Use our mh as a guest room often. I let them use all the gray water they want as I am able to let it drain in the grass. Most folks however come inside to shower. As far as using the facilities, they can use that too. The bed in the mh is much better than the guest bed upstairs. We also turn on the fridge and stock it with sodas, milk, water and have the coffee maker set up.
  • Like other posters, back when my folks were able they always stayed out in our TT. They called it "their" house. Requested that we get it ready for them when they knew they would be coming. My brother and his family always stayed in our TT too and always loved it. Gives everyone a sense of privacy after long days of visiting.

Wow. That wouldn't happen in a million years in my house.

As to the OP, I'm not sure of what's being asked. Are we supposed to answer if your father will enjoy it in the trailer?
  • how old is your father? How agile is he? Does he get up at night to use the restroom? What is the purpose of not letting him use the guest room? I'd like more explanation before making a comment. My SIL, niece and grandniece used our 5th wheel for guest room.......they loved it. My daughter and grandkids have used and love it, too. As for my parents.......I let them use our house. Getting in and out is hard for them, they NEED the bathroom at night, and my step father is NOT a camper, hates RV beds (his comment)......so..........

  • We've used our RV as guest lodging with good results. We pull out the coffee maker, fresh coffee, make sure that there's bottled water in the fridge, and some Dove bars in the freezer. Ice for drinks, and a few cold beers too.

Ours is connected to the septic system so guests can use the shower and toilet if needed.

    Worked well for us...
  • Much would depend on your father's personality and whether he would see this as an enjoyable adventure or an attempt to keep him out of the house.

Keep in mind that if he is not a RV camper, he may have little knowledge of how to use the facilities in the TT - not all of it is intuitive. I also see that there are advantages to this setup in that it gives additional privacy to both he and you, which we all enjoy at times, but it could create issues if he is not experienced in staying in a TT or he perceives that he is not totally welcome in the house.
