The 6.2L/4.30 truck performs better.
Shocking... An engine with roughly the same horsepower and torque, but with a shorter first gear (3.974:1 versus 3.114:1), shorter second gear (2.318:1 versus 2.202:1) and a shorter final drive ratio (4.33 versus 3.73) out-pulled the V-10.
In other news, Today's Friday.
My point is: It's not an apples-to-apples test. First gear on the 6.2 is roughly 28% shorter than 1st on the V-10, and the rear end ratio is a 15% shorter final drive ratio... If you do the math, that gives it roughly 50% more grunt off the line, so it's not exactly rocket surgery that the new truck out-pulled the V-10.
For a closer apples-to-apples engine comparison? Start the 6.2 out in 2nd gear and see which one pulls it up the hill better.
