I was going off the vin number lookup function in the camping world towing guide (https://rv.campingworld.com/towguide) For example, vin # 1GCRWBEH3MZ116570 is a 2021 Silverado 1500 Custom with the 4.3L V6. Enter that vin and it returns a tow limit of 9700. If you enter vin 1GCUYDED1MZ106911 which is a 2021 Silverado LT with the 5.3L V8, it returns 9000 or 9100 depending on bed length. Reason I'm asking is the price difference is HUGE.
Well, don't trust Camping world anything. And don't get the base model 4.3/6 speed for real towing duty.
That said, they're good motors from the one's I've seen in work trucks and they do have decent power for what they are. Compared to 20+ years ago, they pull very well. Compared to current vehicles, they are the lowest powered, base model.
The option for a 5.3 with 6 speed in a low end trim truck, alone is not much of an upcharge. You likely aren't comparing apples to apples, but it doesn't matter. Your comparo needs to see if its an 8 speed 5.3 cause that's more $ and trim/features/discounts/etc.
Unless you're puttering around at low altitude in the flat lands pulling a mid size at most TT, you're doing yourself a dis-service by buying a new truck and getting the slowest one they offer.
I'd expect the V6 to be cheaper than the actual upcharge amount because it's not as desirable.
I almost bought a Trail boss about a year ago and the V6 ones were more heavily discounted than the base V8s and the base 5.3 6speed was more discounted than the LT models with the 5.3 8 speed.
You'll gain on purchase price, lose on towing ability and lose on resale with the V6.
