You can spray them with krylon patio fruniture paint. I do that to my sewer vent covers which are really susceptible to going brittle. It works. I have not found the same issue with maxxair covers. BTW if you do have a sewer vent cap break, I have found the plastic containers those disposable wipes come in work well in a pinch with duct tape. Just cut a couple of holes in the side.
