very close to pulling the trigger on a 29fbss

It looks like we are very close to pulling the trigger on Flagstaff Super lite 29fbss.. We are upgrading from our 2006 Kodiak Skamper Hybrid..The TT is about 10 foot bigger than the hybrid but we definatly need the room for our growing family..Im prett sure my vehicle is good to go for towing, its a 5.7 f150 I called Ford directly and they said 7,700 lbs is my max. the trailer is just at 6,000 lbs..

would love to hear some input form anyone who has this trailer or knows someone who does, or about forest river products.. Good or bad..

Thanks, Craig
  • I went from a 2007 Kodiak Skamper 23SS (weighed 4,400 lbs. at the scales) to the trailer in my signature (6' longer and 2,100 lbs. heavier) with my 2004 Expedition with the 5.4 and HD tow package.

While I was well within the Expy's tow rating and just 49 lbs. over on tongue weight, it was not fun to drive. Really white knuckle.

You can make it less bad with LT tires, air bags, and prayer, but you'll still be at the limit of your truck.
  • Do you have the payload to support that new trailer?

Ford says your truck could pull 7700 lbs, but, that is with a 150 lb driver, only. They also have a maximum weight limit for GVWR and cargo capacity (payload) that includes the weight of fuel, occupants, cargo, WD hitch, and tongue weight. As you load up the truck, with passengers and cargo, your available payload and tow capacity goes down, pound for pound.

Some versions of F150's have as little as 750 lbs of payload, some have as much as 3100 lbs. That trailer will need about 950 lbs of available payload.
  • Have you looked at the stick on the trailer you want? Online, my trailer is listed at 6,300 lbs. When I looked at the actual sticker on my trailer, it ended up being 7,000lbs.
