Very Humbling Realization

Since we bought the TC I have been DH's designated "helper" for loading. I carefully guide him back and after each time he rolls back 6-12" I shout "STOP". And I carefully look at both sides and then ask him to roll slowly back again and stop so I can judge if it's still centered. It takes a few minutes, could be faster, but I still thought we were a good team.

DH felt I had him stop too many times and he should just be able to "roll" slowly.... but I felt more comfortable having him stop b/c we have a sub-wing that makes it to within 1/2" on the passenger side.

Last trip DH asked me to come out and help him and I got tied up inside the house. By the time I came out he had it loaded and tied down and plugged in! In less time than it takes us as a "team" to just get the truck backed underneath....

I'm officially off the team now :( :)
  • Thank goodness we have a travel trailer. Only takes 2 or 3 trys.
  • That's alright. My wife is never kicked off the team, but she gets benched all the time. :)
  • Stars, I feel your pain. We are always hauling something somewhere and if I am around he tells me he "needs" my help hooking up. But...oddly enough, I often come home and he already has it done. hmmmm...and no neighbors to help. I have finally figured out my soul purpose is to tell him how incredibly wonderfully he does EVERYTHING~!!! ( I guess someone has to do it)

It looks like I am flying solo to the TC rally in TN and am bound and determined to be able to load it - either before I leave or by the time I get back! I did load it when I picked it up, with the assistance of the seller, and managed to crack a tail light. It took me a little while to live that one down.

And I too love the "doing other things" by himself quote. May I steal it?
  • If we practiced, I suppose it might be helpful for the DW to help load the camper. As it is, I spend most of my time trying to figure out the directions she is giving. She's not officially off the loading team, but I think we both agree that it's slower and more stressful for both of us if she helps!
  • I gave up on my wife helping me 3 rv's ago. She just doesn't get it and I'd rather not have it turn into a tiff.
  • I've had experience on both ends of those loading examples. I much prefer to do it myself because the wife is just a little too tense about the whole operation. However, by keeping her on the team, she feels involved and needed so I go through the little more time consuming load and unload procedure.
  • I pointed out there were TONS of things he could be "Doing by himself" if kept up with that attitude! LOL

That just caused me to spew my coffee............your DH needs to learn when he is ahead. :S

Bet you don't stay off of the team for long.
  • Stars, you've got to read this prose by BradW, it took me a while to find it, hilarious.

    Clicky
  • Oh, and DH pointed out (somewhat smugly) that like most things, it was usually better if the DW stayed away and the DH did it themselves. I pointed out there were TONS of things he could be "Doing by himself" if kept up with that attitude! LOL
